Die Legler & CO. AG Diesbach
1954

The initiator of the mechanical weaving mill, Mathias Legler, founded in 1856, came from Diesbach. For years he had been active in the field of home weaving. The success of the foundation of the company allowed an expansion of the activity quite fast. In 1870 the spinning mill got its own building.

In 1888, the Legler family broke new ground in energy production by relying on electricity, which was still little known at that time. The high-pressure power plant with the water catchment above the Diesbach Falls was the first such plant in Switzerland. The electrical long-distance line from the foot of the Diesbach Falls to the factory site was also a pioneering achievement.
The production of yarn was initially a supplement to cloth production. However, the spinning mill became more and more important, which led to the construction of the "New Spinning Mill" in 1910, a building with an innovative flat roof.
In the period after the Second World War, the spinning mill lost importance. Since 1966 the company was again a pure weaving mill.

As early as 1875, the Legler family ventured to go abroad. In Ponte San Pietro near Bergamo (Italy) they founded another spinning and weaving mill. From there, the international textile group Legler emerged, which was one of the largest in Europe after the Second World War.

In 2001 the production in Diesbach was stopped.
