‘Monastry in a social aspect’
Hanne Gabriels
FS21

Braunwald is an outlandish village on a plateau in the mountains of Glarus-süd.
The village is invisable from the valley and is only accessible via one outdated trainline or by foot. The village is one of the few survivors that stayed car-free in the 21th century.
All this gives Braunwald a soothing, historisch and calm athmospere. Braunwald has something peculiar that I would like to keep, or even improve.

Consideration and mindfulness are the keywords for my design. By adding a Monastery without the religion aspect, I want create a place for people to reflect and relax ‘far’ away from the daily life but not so far away... A Monastery that is not really a Monastery and pilgrims who are more hikers than pilgrims, looking for a singular place as an intent for their hike.

Or just an inexpensive place for people who come to recharge their batteries in silence on a unique location. They arrive by horse and carriage on the hill that looks over the village, the mountains and the woods. A triptech of the 3 most descriptive images of Braunwald and a painting that changes by every hour.
