The following work shows an approach of hospitality and tourism for Hätzingen in Glarus. It tries to continue building within the fabric of the existing village. The project creates new usages and programs for the site. The biggest change to the landscape being the new artificial lake which will bring a variety of new activities to the site such as swimming in summer and ice skating in winter. The existing channel is opened up and turned into a small waterfall, in order to create a different background noise to the street. With the addition of possibly two new cablecar connections the site attracts visitors.
Right after the bridge, the first building, includes a new market, a restaurant and some small rooms. The second building on the lakeshore is a bath house with saunas and wellness facilities. The main focus of the project lies on the ensemble of the four buildings on the opposite lakeshore. The three hospitality buildings around the new square offer a range of rooms with different levels of privacy in order to meet a wide audience. Common rooms invite for time spent with fellow travelers. A climbing hall and workshop studios offer additional bad weather alternatives to the bathhouse. The public picnic hut reaches out to the village of Adlenbach and creates a connection between the two villages and the lake. The lake and its shore invite for people to meet and spend time outdoors.
Following tradition the main building material is wood. The houses are built with full wood modules, which are load bearing but also are the inner and outer facade all in one. An isolating concrete as a base, protects the wood from moisture and translates the traditional stone base in a modern way. The railings and sliding shutters add some ornament to the houses.
