The space in between

This following work shows a tourism project in a rural place in Glarus. The villages Hätzingen and Luchsingen are located in the valley of Glarus on the main road, which is a connection between the north and south part of Switzerland. There are buildings which are partly scattered and others are placed very close to each other. There are also terraced houses. The historic “Adlenbach” is their jewel and it is located in the immediate proximity of the working perimeter, and it is separated only by the course of the river Linth.
It has always seemed to me that the buildings of Adlenbach look over to Hätzigen. I asked myself, how should Hätzingen look back? Some of the houses in Adlenbach stand together in pairs and form squares or stand separately. This arrangement creates a tension of far and near between the buildings. That is what interested me. The gable house facade of the two-story houses with plinth areas face south directed to the valley, but even there, there are exceptions. Forecourts often have been created for the houses, which are used as ornamental gardens or work areas and are often enclosed with walls. The houses are accessed through a small road in the middle.
Simple houses with clear geometries - to create an “opposite” for Adlenbach - seem to me to be right in this place. The new planned two- to-three-story vacation houses are placed in the slope along “Kreuzgasse” in such a way that they are always create spaces of different sizes in between. It is a play between opening and closing.
The buildings are completed with an accommodation for backpackers and the shore house with a bridge. The existing spring feeds the artificial lake, which gets its shape from the existing terrain.
