Located in Hatzingen, Glarus, the project reacts to the surrounding mountain setting and particularly to the wet conditions of the terrain that’s turned into a floodable moor garden.
From its early Lutyenesque beginnings, the projects grew increasingly empathetic of its local cultural setting and landscape.
The project consist of a thin concrete shell roof floating in the valley, the covered portion becomes a living area for the guest and visitors and offers an halfway climatic zone between the chilly outside and the warmth of the guest-rooms, more importantly it allows the growth of plants.
Essential to the project is the conception of the lake stretching in an inlet to touch the buildings conservatory. To exploit the low nutrients and soggy condition of the soil a configuration of typical bog plants was found.
