‘Braunwald Gin Haus’

Das Braunwald Gin Haus will frischen Wind in die bestehende Kulturszene des Ortes bringen. Gin - eine exquisite Spirituose, gemischt mit Wacholderbeeren, Blumen und Kräutern, von denen die meisten im alpinen Klima gedeihen können. Sein Herstellungsprozess lässt viele Möglichkeiten für die Schaffung großer Räume. Ausgehend von der Geschichte des Rosengärtens und des Pflanzenschutzgebietes sah ich das Potenzial, diesen botanischen Aspekt des Dorflebens zu vertiefen und ihn zu einem größeren Anziehungspunkt für einen Besuch in Braunwald zu machen. Der Wasserfall ist eine perfekte Quelle für die Gin-Produktion. Die erzeugte Wärme kann in das Gewächshaus geleitet werden, in dem jedes beliebige Kraut angebaut werden kann. Eine Unterbrechung des Wasserfalls gibt uns die Möglichkeit, das Wasser so zu sammeln, dass es nie überläuft. Die Besucher können sogar ein Bad nehmen, wenn sie es wünschen. Zwischen dem Empfangsgebäude und den Produktionsanlagen entsteht eine Freifläche zur öffentlichen Nutzung. Natürlich ist keine Destillerie komplett ohne eine tolle Bar. Hier können Besucher, Wanderer und Skifahrer einen edlen Gin Tonic genießen, mit dem atemberaubenden Anblick der Bäume und Berge zu ihren Füßen.Eingebettet zwischen den Bäumen und auf einer Anhöhe liegt das Gin Haus versteckt und doch nur wenige Meter vom Bahnhof entfernt. Die Idee ist, dass das Gebäude mit der Landschaft verwoben ist, versteckt auf dem Hügel, umgeben von Wasser und Fauna. Um zum Gebäude zu gelangen, wandern die Besucher einige Treppen hinauf, für Nachschub sorgt eine kleine Seilbahn.

The ambition is to create a destination that serves first the community, the existing tourists and then the potential new tourists.
From the history of the Rosengärtens and the Plant Protection Area, I saw the potential to expound on this botanical aspect of village life and make it a bigger draw to visit Braunwald. The waterfall is a perfect source for gin production. Heat produced can be funnelled into the greenhouse that allows for any herb to be grown in the mountains.
A break in the waterfall gives us an opportunity to collect the water in a way that it will never overflow. Visitors can even take a bath if they wish. Between the reception building and production facilities, an open space is created for public use. Of course no distillery is complete without a great bar. Here, visitors, hikers and skiers can enjoy a sublime gin and tonic, with the breathtaking sight of the trees and mountains at their feet.
Nestled amongst the trees and up a hill, the Gin Haus is hidden yet only a short distance away from the train station. The idea is for the building to be woven into the landscape, hidden atop the hill, surrounded by water and fauna. To get to the building visitors hike up some stairs, for supplies a small cable car.
