there are many points from which a project could be started in braunwald. as an outsider who has visited the village several times in the last months, i still find it difficult to capture the location. the greatest discomfort is always triggered by the knowledge of this slipping soil. it seems to me that this knowledge also lies like a dull veil over the village.
there is this drainage project. it does not convince me. the problem is not solved, only pushed out.
the village has organized itself around the mountain station, that is understandable. for reasons of comfort. once at the top, no one wants to travel great distances to get home.
if you look at the pencil drawing from 1930, you can clearly see the entire terrace. in the width lies the greatness chance i think. the proposal is to create a new access, with the assertion that things will align themselves with it.
the orenplatte is an ideal location. it can be seen from a long way off. a mountain plateau that jumps out a bit at the northern end of the terrace. slightly above the existing buildings, at the highest point, the building should be located. there is this direct path to braunwald here. a connection that could become stronger - without much effort. on old picture postcards you can see how well visited the orenplatte once was.
the station is meant to create a place that is popular in winter as well as in summer.
from an architectural point of view, it is this ancient tradition of houses that seem to grow out of the landscape that fascinates me. the stone from the ground and the wood that is laid on top of it. in my mind are also the buildings by josef eschenmoser & hansleuzinger. buildings that take up the lines of their surroundings and melt into them.
the station made of stone takes the direction on the track. a massive wall follows the height line and ends at the existing natural stone wall. this forms a small terrace. the furniture grows out of the ground. partly also as supports for the roof. this sets itself with its clear lines as a clear opposite on the stone.
the stations in braunwald are all purely functional, the architecture is purposeful.
